Description

Spirit is an intimate portrait of a wild Salt River horse, captured in a moment of quiet strength and soulful presence. The close-up composition draws the viewer directly into the horse’s striking blue eye — a focal point that reflects the intelligence, resilience, and untamed beauty of the desert herds roaming the Salt River region.

Soft transitions of white, gray, and warm brown create a luminous, dappled coat, while delicate brushwork in the mane adds a sense of gentle movement. Set against a smooth gray‑blue background, the horse’s expressive features take center stage, allowing the viewer to connect with the animal’s individuality and spirit.

This piece honors the wild horses of the Southwest — their dignity, their endurance, and the quiet stories carried in their eyes.

Artist’s Note

This painting reflects my love for subtle color shifts and the meditative rhythm of glazing — a technique that lets emotion unfold slowly, layer by layer.
